Welcome and thank you for visiting. I am Sonja, an artist and graphic designer. I've been creating and exploring various mediums my whole life; sewing, pottery, encaustic painting just to name a few. I discovered metalsmithing in 2004 and fell in love... again.
A favorite description of my work is actually from a design client I've known for over 15 years who came to one of my gallery shows. This client really isn't into modern art, which I am, but I hold dear both his insight and friendship. I'm so thankful he shared his thoughts with me. Below are his comments regarding my paintings, but I think his statements ring true for my entire body of work, including my jewelry. "I woke up at four in the morning last night trying to figure out your art. What inspires you to such simplicity and subtlety? The best I could come up with was a concept from Buddhism called "Emptiness". The idea is not that there is nothing there, but rather that the awareness of living simply and fully in the present moment opens up the entire range of infinite possibilities that are imbued in every second. The viewer of your art is invited in, to either rest quietly in the softness and simplicity, or to embellish the canvas with their own brushstrokes from the pallet of the mind. That, or you just really like white. :) " — signed, friend and design client In closing, I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy creating and sharing it. Thanks for viewing.
